With Halloween around the corner, I want to share some cute and easy Halloween dessert ideas with you all. These little bat cupcakes are so fun to serve at Halloween parties and they are really easy to make! For these cupcakes, I used my all time favorite chocolate buttercream recipe that I have perfected over the years and today I’m sharing it with you! This cupcake recipe couldn’t be easier, the frosting can be made in one bowl in just a matter of minutes and the cake is made from a box mix! I love homemade cake but sometimes using a box mix is just the right taste I’m looking for. I’m also showing you how to kick up the box mix a notch to taste even more scrumptious!
Bat Cupcakes Recipe:
Cake:
- 1 box yellow cake mix ( I use Betty Crocker Super Moist Yellow Cake Mix)
- The amount of eggs that the box calls for
- Instead of using water as the box calls for, use milk (use the same amount of milk
- Instead of using oil as the box calls for, use melted butter
- Add 1 tsp vanilla extract
Directions:
Bake as directed on the box.
My Chocolate Buttercream Recipe:
- 1 cup (16 tbsp) unsalted butter
- 4 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3-4 tbsp milk
- 1 tbsp (not teaspoon) vanilla extract
Directions:
Cream butter until smooth. Add in the powdered sugar and cocoa powder gradually. Add in the vanilla and milk until frosting is fluffy. Frost the cupcakes with a large round piping tip.
DIY Bat wings and cupcake wrapper:
You will need:
- Thick black paper
- Black and white striped paper (If you cant find this you can cut out the wrapper from just the white paper then cut out the stripes from the black paper and glue them on)
- Tip: I used a Sephora bag because it had the perfcet black and white stripes and was thick enough to use as a cupcake wrapper!
- White paper for the fangs
- Glue or tape
- Googly eye sprinkles
Directions:
To make the bat wings, draw out two wings on thick black paper and cut out. I’ve included a stencil to trace for the cupcake wrapper here. To make the cupcake wrapper trace the stencil on your striped paper and cut out. Fasten the wrapper around your cupcake with tape or glue. Stick the bat wings on the sides of the frosting, the googly eyes in the center of the frosting and the fangs underneath and you’re all done!
