Inventing with fresh ideas for my Thanksgiving table scape has been something I’ve looked forward to doing every year since I was about 12. I love creating a magical experience for everyone while we all enjoy yummy Thanksgiving food together. This year, I wanted to do something different from my usual color palette of lights, whites and neutrals so I selected a few rich, dark pieces for my table. I thought using deep maroon autumn leaves as place cards would finish off my table scape perfectly! The only issue is that there are rarely any fall leaves in San Diego. Luckily, I passed a few trees that had changed color a few weeks ago and revisited the spot to pick up these leaves!
I’ve incorporated gold accents into my Thanksgiving table scape this year, and thought it would look lovely if the leaves were sprayed partially in gold as well. If you’re interested in making these place cards for your fall table keep reading below.
Fall Leaf Place Cards:
Materials:
- Colorful Autumn Leaves (I used liquid amber leaves)
- Chromatic Gold Spray Paint (I used Krylon 18k Gold)
- Opaque White Marker (After trying 5 different types of pens/markers, the Recollections Signature Opaque Marker in Snow is what worked best)
Directions:
Press leaves by placing on sheet of newspaper and inserting into in a large book, be sure to leave about 100 pages between each section of leaves placed. Place any type of weights or heavy object on top of book and leave for a few days. Once leaves are done being pressed, spray just the top section of each leaf with gold spray paint and let dry. Lastly, inscribe each guests name on a leaf using the white marker and let dry before setting out finished place cards.
